PORR on course for success with solar power
/ Press Release
Vienna, 19.03.2025 â As part of its rollout, PORR has already installed 16 photovoltaic systems on the roofs of its branch offices. This year, the first ground-mounted system will begin operating. The construction company is taking a major step towards decarbonisation and energy independence.
âWe are using the roofs of our branch offices and landfill sites, which would otherwise lie fallow, to supply PORR with renewable energy. And not just a little bit of energy: Our plants will ultimately be able to cover a third of our annual electricity needs. This is how we make a tangible contribution to decarbonisationâ, said Karl-Heinz Strauss, PORR CEO.
PORRâs Austria-wide photovoltaic rollout is progressing apace. Of the 30 installations on roofs and open spaces planned by 2026, 16 rooftop systems with a total output of 4 MWp are already in use. This year, they will produce a total of 4,000 MWh â equivalent to the electricity demand of 1,100 Austrian households.
And there is no end in sight to this power boost: In 2025 PORR is installing its first ground-mounted solar plant in Gerasdorf with an output of 2.8 MWp. Another ten rooftop plants are also being realised.
Supplying the sites
Those arenât the only innovations planned: In the first half of the year, PORR BĂŒrgerenergiegemeinschaft â the PORR Citizensâ Energy Community - will become the first association in the history of PORR to start operating. This marks another important step towards a sustainable supply of energy, as it will ensure that sites without their own PV systems are supplied with sustainably generated electricity from other PORR locations.
The photovoltaic rollout in Austria is one of numerous measures implemented by PORR in the energy sector. These include upgrading the vehicle and equipment fleet with vehicles and devices with alternative drive systems and installing e-filling stations and energy control systems at PORR locations.
