Start of PORR Adventure Camp at Lake Millstatt

Vienna, / Work@PORR / Press Release

Juggling work and family life is a daily challenge for many parents, especially during the summer holidays. PORR supports its workforce with family-friendly programmes. A particular highlight is the PORR Adventure Camp: Alongside fun and games, children and young people get their first experience of the world of construction.

Huge interest: Around 60 children and youngsters are expected this year.

It’s time for the PORR Adventure Camp: In the last week of July and the first week of August, the children of PORR staff in Austria will have two opportunities to experience a week of adventure and camaraderie at Lake Millstatt. The programme includes extensive kayaking and pedal boat trips as well as several excursions.

Around 60 girls and boys aged seven to thirteen are taking part this year. As you would expect for a construction company, they also get their first taste of a building site. The youngsters can put their skills to the test at the PORR kids’ construction site in Klagenfurt – driving dumpers and excavators as well as making bricks. They can also plant a tree, learn how to use a fire extinguisher together with the occupational safety team, and make their own honey thanks to the beehives on site.

“Getting youngsters excited about our industry”

PORR CEO Karl-Heinz-Strauss: “Lots of children get their first taste of construction site life here. On the one hand, this is about supporting our employees in a family-friendly way. On the other, it’s also about getting youngsters excited about our industry at an early age. We’re delighted that girls in particular are showing huge interest.” Skilled labour is still in high demand in the construction industry and recruiting can never start early enough. This is why, as part of its employer branding, PORR cooperates with schools and training programmes on an ongoing basis and invites youngsters to Girls’ Day and Daughters’ Day to introduce them to the construction industry.

Another initiative that gives parents additional support during the holiday season is the PORR Kids Week in Vienna. Here the young PORRians can look forward to a variety-packed week. This year’s programme has plans for an interactive first aid course, a visit to the Vienna Museum - built by PORR - and exciting insights into the PORR Campus, the company’s training centre. Outings to Vienna swimming pools and high ropes courses ensure plenty of action.

PORR also provides an array of family-friendly measures outside of the summer programme. In addition to paternity leave and flexible working time solutions, there are goodies such as the PORR Baby Box – a perk for the birth that contains a personalised greetings card and small gifts. At the headquarters in Vienna, employees have access to a parent-child office equipped with a workstation and a child-friendly play area.
